Cypress Fatal DUI Crash - April 16th, 2017
At 12:44 AM Sunday morning, the Orange County Fire Authority responded to reports of a traffic collision at the intersection of Katella Avenue and Valley View Street in Cypress. Crews arriving on scene found a three-vehicle traffic collision with two patients trapped and one patient deceased. Firefighters used the jaws of life to free both trapped victims within approximately 15 minutes. A total of three patients were transported to area hospitals in unknown condition.
The driver of one of the vehicles, Nicholas Sanchez-McCormick, 22, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence. Police believe Sanchez ran a red light while driving under the influence, causing the fatal collision. He is being held at the Orange County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Cypress PD is handling the investigation.
