Fountain Valley Oil Tanker Crash - December 10th, 2016
At 6:16 PM on Saturday evening the California Highway Patrol and the Fountain Valley Fire Department received reports of a vehicle versus oil tanker collision with a possible entrapment on the northbound 405 freeway just north of the Euclid onramp.
According to witnesses, a white SUV veered across several lanes of traffic before colliding with the oil tanker and becoming pinned underneath. Another vehicle, a black BMW coupe, also become pinned underneath the tanker after it rolled slightly.
Upon arrival, officials found the white SUV and black BMW pinned underneath the tanker which was blocking several lanes of traffic. The oil tanker had reportedly been carrying fuel previously but was empty at the time of collision.
Two patients were transported via ground ambulance to area hospitals in unknown condition. Due to the size of tanker and potential materials involved a CalTrans Supervisor and HazMat Team were requested to the seen. As of 9:30 PM CHP was awaiting a medium crane and tow trucks to remove the involved vehicles.
A full freeway closure and SigAlert was issued. A cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the CHP.
