Placentia House Fire - October 29th, 2017
PLACENTIA (OC Register) - Thirty firefighters battled a fire at a home in Placentia early Sunday Oct. 29 that was complicated by a steel roof that had been installed over a shake shingle roof.
The occupants of the home in the 1900 block of Key Drive escaped but one or more cats died in the fire, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Stephen Horner.
The blaze started in the garage shortly before 5:09 a.m. When firefighters arrived the garage was fully engulfed and the fire had spread to the home’s attic and the roof.
Firefighters had to remove the steel portion of the roof. Horner said no one should ever install a steel roof over a shake shingle roof, which is combustible.
Firefighters from OCFA, Brea and Fullerton were able to control the fire in 20 minutes, Horner said. No one was injured but there was smoke damage throughout the home and the occupants were displaced. No damage estimate was immediately available.
