Tustin OIS (Suicide by Cop) - May 16th, 2017
At approximately 7:15 PM Tuesday evening, the Tustin Police Department responded to reports of a suicidal male in a vehicle near the parking area of the Tustin Parc Apartments at 16282 East Main Street. Units arriving on scene contacted the subject who was wearing a military battle dress uniform inside of a dark grey Dodge Charger. The subject displayed a handgun, refusing to comply with the requests of officers and a standoff ensued. After approximately two hours into the encounter the subject fired several rounds at officers. Officers returned fire, striking the subject several times before immediately rendering first aid. The suspect was transported in grave condition to an area hospital. As is usual for officer involved shootings, the Orange County District Attorney's office will be handling the investigation.

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING:
On May 16, 2017, at approximately 7:12pm, Tustin Police Department Officers responded to a call of a suicidal subject. Officers contacted the subject inside of a vehicle in the alley of an apartment complex located in the 16200 Block of Main St in the City of Tustin. During the incident, the subject displayed a handgun and refused to comply with the officer’s orders. The incident became a standoff during which the subject fired rounds from his handgun while inside the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck by gunfire and officers on scene immediately rendered first aid. The subject was transported to a local hospital.
No officers or other civilians were injured during the incident. Per protocol, the Orange County District Attorney’s shooting team has responded to conduct their investigation.
